Parents Sue School After Son Punished for Using AI
A Massachusetts teenager was accused of cheating for using AI to assist with research on a history paper, leading to detention and a negative impact on his grade.
The family is suing the school, claiming the incident will cause “irreparable harm” to the teen’s academic future, including his applications to elite colleges.
The lawsuit highlights the school’s unclear rules regarding AI use, calling for a clear AI policy and training for school administrators.
The student was barred from the National Honor Society and the family is seeking to have his grade restored and his induction into the society retroactively approved.
