LATEST AI UPDATES
OpenAI

OpenAI has introduced its latest reasoning model, o3-mini, which is now available in ChatGPT and its API services.
This model is designed to outperform the previous o1-mini model in tasks such as math, coding, and science, while providing faster and more accurate responses.
For the first time, a version of this model with rate limits is available to free users of ChatGPT.
The o3-mini model also supports developer-centric features like function calling, structured outputs, and developer messages, making it production-ready.
Paid users can access a higher intelligence version, o3-mini-high, which offers even more advanced capabilities.
DeepSeek

Hundreds of companies, particularly those with government ties, are blocking DeepSeek due to concerns about data leakage to the Chinese government.
DeepSeek's privacy policy states that user data is stored in China and subject to local laws, which mandate data sharing with intelligence agencies upon request.
The Pentagon and the U.S. Navy have already banned DeepSeek, and cybersecurity firms like Armis and Netskope have raised alarms about the potential risks.
Despite its popularity, with DeepSeek's chatbot topping the Apple and Play stores, the data security concerns have led to widespread blocking of the service.
Microsoft

Microsoft has added a Copilot button to Paint on Windows, making it easier to access AI-powered creative tools such as Cocreator, Image Creator, Generative Erase, and Remove Background.
This feature is currently in testing and available to select Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels.
The Copilot button opens a dropdown menu listing all available AI-powered features, streamlining the image editing process and making these tools more accessible.
This update aligns with Microsoft's broader push to incorporate Copilot across its ecosystem, enhancing digital creativity and productivity.
AI Ban

The European Union's AI Act, effective February 2, 2025, bans AI systems deemed to pose "unacceptable risk" or harm.
The Act categorizes AI systems into four risk levels: minimal, limited, high, and unacceptable.
Unacceptable risk applications, now prohibited, include AI for social scoring, subliminal manipulation, exploiting vulnerabilities, predicting crimes based on appearance, and real-time biometric data collection for law enforcement.
Companies violating these rules face fines up to €35 million or 7% of their annual revenue.
The Act aims to ensure AI systems are safe and transparent, setting a global standard for ethical AI practices.
