LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are now on Google Cloud in private preview. Google is now the only cloud offering OpenAI, Gemini and Claude in one place.

Details

  1. The launch: OpenAI and Google Cloud announced on October 21 that GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in private preview to select enterprise customers in Google Cloud’s Model Garden. Codex coding workflows are coming too.

  2. Why it’s big: Google says it’s now the only major cloud offering all three leading closed-model families: OpenAI, Gemini and Claude. That makes Google Cloud the third big US cloud to offer GPT-6 models, after Azure and AWS.

  3. How it got here: Microsoft’s license to OpenAI’s tech became non-exclusive in April. Oracle got OpenAI’s models in June, and now Google in October. Still, OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.

  4. For businesses: Companies can buy OpenAI models through Google Cloud Marketplace using their existing Google Cloud spending commitments.

  5. What’s next: General availability is planned in the coming weeks. OpenAI models are also coming to Gemini for business and Google Antigravity. Pricing hasn’t been announced.

Takeaway: The AI model wars are turning into a cloud marketplace. OpenAI wants to be everywhere, and Google is happy to host its biggest rival, because businesses want options, not one locked-in AI provider.

Anthropic launched Claude Duet, a standalone agent app that monitors your connected apps, flags what needs attention and handles tasks. It’s in waitlisted preview for US Pro and Max users.

Details

  1. What it is: Claude Duet is a standalone AI agent app for professionals and small-business owners, Anthropic’s answer to Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dots agents.

  2. How it’s different: Instead of waiting for prompts, it watches your connected apps and tells you what needs attention. It sends a daily briefing and handles tasks like scheduling meetings, building financial forecasts and even making web apps.

  3. Under the hood: It runs on Claude Opus 5.5, carries over your Claude memory, skills and connected apps, and uses its own cloud computer with a browser to get work done. It connects to 6,000+ apps like Gmail and Slack, and can make purchases via Stripe Link and Shop Pay.

  4. Safety: It asks for your approval before sending messages, paying for anything or deleting data. It never sees your passwords, and a new classifier guards against sensitive info leaks. Anthropic admits it can still misjudge what’s urgent and is weaker at personal tasks like booking tickets.

  5. Availability: It’s a waitlisted research preview for US Pro and Max subscribers on iOS, Android and the web. There’s no extra cost, but it uses your existing plan limits, including its background checks.

Takeaway: The AI agent race is moving from “ask and answer” to “AI that comes to you.” Anthropic, OpenAI and Meta all want to be your always-on assistant, and how much you trust them with your inbox and wallet will decide who wins.

iPhone drivers can now talk to Gemini inside Google Maps on CarPlay to find stops, reroute, avoid tolls and report traffic hands-free. It’s live in the US, with a global rollout underway.

Details

  1. What’s new: Google brought Gemini to navigation in Google Maps on Apple CarPlay. Drivers can ask follow-up questions, find stops and change routes just by talking.

  2. How it works: While navigating, tap the Gemini icon on the right side of the Maps screen. You can ask multi-step questions, like a park with great city views, the best time to go and the weather, then tell Gemini to drive there while avoiding tolls. It can also report traffic incidents by voice.

  3. A first for CarPlay: This is the first time Google Maps has offered a voice assistant in CarPlay. Before, Google Assistant only worked when using Maps directly on the iPhone.

  4. Why now: Apple began allowing third-party voice AI apps in CarPlay with iOS 26.4. ChatGPT, Grok and Perplexity were already available there.

  5. Limits: Gemini works inside Google Maps only. It doesn’t replace Siri and isn’t a separate Gemini app. The new Personal Intelligence feature for Android Auto hasn’t been announced for CarPlay.

Takeaway: Google is sneaking Gemini into Apple’s ecosystem through the app iPhone users already rely on. Instead of fighting Siri head-on, Google is winning drivers one navigation request at a time.
