AI NEWS

Gemini will be on iPhone.

Apple is reportedly in discussions with Google to integrate Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence engine into the iPhone. The negotiations are centered around licensing Gemini for some new features coming to the iPhone software later this year.

Impact on Shares

Following the news, Alphabet shares jumped more than 6% in early U.S. trading, while Apple was up 2.5%.

Announcement Timeline

It is unlikely that any deal would be announced until June, when Apple plans to hold its annual conference of developers.

Potential Benefits

A potential deal between the firms could help Google expand the use of its AI services to more than 2 billion active Apple devices. This could boost Google’s efforts to catch up with Microsoft-backed OpenAI.

Investor Concerns

The deal could also help allay investor fears about the slow roll-out of AI apps by Apple.

Regulatory Scrutiny

However, the agreement could invite sharper scrutiny from U.S. regulators.

Analyst’s View

Daniel Ives, an analyst at Wedbush, said, "This strategic partnership is a missing piece in the Apple AI strategy and combines forces with Google for Gemini to power some of the AI features Apple is bringing to market".

AI FARMING

AI Robot Tulip Farming in the Netherlands

Theo, an artificial intelligence (AI) robot, is revolutionizing tulip farming in the Netherlands. Theo tirelessly works days, nights, and weekends in the tulip fields, identifying and eliminating diseased flowers.

The Robot’s Function

Theo’s primary function is to prevent viruses from spreading among the valuable tulip plants. The robot identifies troubled tulip bulbs and destroys them if necessary. The diseased bulbs are then separated from the healthy ones in a processing center after the harvest.

The Scale of Operation

Currently, there are 45 robots like Theo working in the tulip fields of the Netherlands. Their work becomes particularly important as winter turns to spring and peak season nears.

The Cost of Innovation

Allan Visser, a third-generation tulip farmer, has been using a robot for the second season. He mentioned that the cost of the robot is equivalent to that of a sports car – about $200,000. However, he prefers the robot over a sports car as it helps in maintaining the health of his tulip field.

The Technology Behind

The robot has been trained to identify the red stripes that show up on the leaves of infected plants. It moves through the fields very slowly – about one kilometer per hour – looking for sick tulips. The AI software considers thousands of photos of the tulips and decides which tulips need to be eliminated.

The Company Behind

H2L Robotics, the company that manufactures these robots, uses GPS coordinates to ensure the correct tulip is targeted among many in the field. All the knowledge used in the computer program that informs the robot comes from tulip farmers.

AI STOCKS

Buffett bets big on AI: 44% of his portfolio in 3 AI stocks.

Apple: $156,317,767,200 (42.8% of invested assets)

Buffett's main AI bet is Apple (AAPL), dominating Berkshire's holdings. While not an AI pioneer like Nvidia, Apple embeds AI in products like iPhone and the Vision Pro headset. Its loyal customer base, strong management, shift towards services, and robust capital-return program make it a top pick for Buffett, ensuring long-term growth.

Amazon: $1,744,200,000 (0.5% of invested assets)

Buffett's Berkshire holds Amazon (AMZN), utilizing AI extensively, especially in AWS. Its cloud segment dominates sales and income, offering growth potential.

Snowflake: $961,500,271 (0.3% of invested assets)

Berkshire's third major AI bet, Snowflake (SNOW), partnered with Nvidia for AI capabilities. Though with competitive advantages, its premium valuation challenges justify.
