LATEST AI UPDATES

Gemini is coming to your Workspace Soon

Google recently held its first “Gemini at Work” event to showcase the capabilities of its generative AI tools, Gemini and Vertex AI. The event aimed to convince businesses that Google’s generative AI offers a superior option compared to rivals like Microsoft and OpenAI.

Wide Range of Business Applications

Google highlighted over 100 examples of businesses using its AI tools for various applications. Notable companies include Snap, Dun & Bradstreet, Puma, and Radisson Hotel Group. For instance, Scotts Miracle-Gro is using Vertex AI to create an AI “garden sommelier” to provide gardening advice.

Productivity Gains and Cost Efficiency

One of the key selling points for businesses is the potential productivity gains. Google claims that its large business customers are saving an average of 105 minutes per person per week using these AI tools. This efficiency could justify the additional monthly fees of $20 to $30 for these productivity assistants.

Innovative Use Cases

The event also showcased innovative use cases, such as the Clearwater, Florida-based moving company Pods, which used Google’s AI to generate slogans for digital displays on its trucks. This creative application demonstrates the versatility and practical benefits of generative AI.

Semi-Autonomous Agents

Google is also focusing on the latest trend in generative AI—semi-autonomous agents that can take action within prescribed limits. This feature is being highlighted as a significant advancement in the field, with potential applications in various business processes.

Police using AI to write reports

Several U.S. police departments are experimenting with AI chatbots to draft crime reports. This technology, known as Draft One, is designed to save officers time by generating first drafts of reports from body camera audio.

How Draft One Works

Draft One uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 model to analyze and summarize audio from body cameras. It can produce a report in just eight seconds, capturing details that officers might miss.

Current Use and Limitations

Currently, Draft One is used for minor incidents only, not for felonies or violent crimes. The generated reports are reviewed and approved by human officers to ensure accuracy.

Potential Benefits

The primary benefit of using AI in this context is the significant time savings for officers. For example, Oklahoma City police have reported positive experiences, noting that the AI-generated reports are often more detailed and accurate than manually written ones.

Concerns and Risks

Despite the benefits, there are concerns about the reliability and potential biases of AI-generated reports. Legal scholars worry that the ease of automation might lead to less careful report writing, and there are broader concerns about systemic discrimination being exacerbated by AI.

Spotify AI playlists in US

Spotify has introduced a new AI Playlist Builder in beta, available to Premium users in the US and Canada. This tool allows users to create personalized playlists by simply typing prompts into the app.

How It Works

Users can generate playlists by entering specific prompts that describe the type of music they want. For example, prompts like “relaxing music for a rainy day” or “upbeat songs for a workout” will help the AI curate a suitable playlist.

User Experience and Customization

The AI Playlist Builder offers a high level of customization. Users can refine their playlists by providing feedback, such as requesting “more pop” or “less upbeat” tracks. This ensures the playlists are tailored to individual preferences.

Availability and Access

To access the AI Playlist Builder, users need to open the Spotify mobile app, navigate to “Your Library,” and select the “+” button to find the “AI Playlist” option. The feature is currently in beta and will be iterated upon based on user feedback.

Future Plans

Spotify plans to expand this feature beyond the US and Canada after the beta phase. The company is committed to enhancing the user experience and integrating more advanced AI capabilities into its platform.
