OpenAI has launched Operator, a general-purpose AI agent capable of autonomously performing tasks on the web.
Initially available to U.S. users on ChatGPT's $200 Pro subscription plan, Operator can book travel, make restaurant reservations, and shop online.
It uses a dedicated web browser and the Computer-Using Agent (CUA) model, which combines GPT-4's vision capabilities with advanced reasoning. Operator is designed to interact with websites like a human, navigating menus and filling out forms.
While it has limitations and requires user supervision for sensitive tasks, Operator represents a significant step forward in AI automation.
Perplexity AI
Perplexity has introduced a new AI assistant for Android devices, called Perplexity Assistant.
This assistant can perform various tasks such as booking rides, finding songs, and making restaurant reservations.
It is multimodal, meaning it can use the phone's camera to answer questions about the surroundings or on-screen content. The assistant maintains context from one action to another, enhancing user experience.
Initially, it will be available for free in 15 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Hindi.
Despite some initial limitations, Perplexity plans to address these issues in the coming months
Gemini
Google has launched its Gemini AI smart home controls to all users, enhancing the Google Home extension with new features.
Users can now control smart home devices using natural language commands, such as adjusting lights, thermostats, and media devices.
The extension allows for complex requests like "Turn on all the living room lights except the armchair light."
Additionally, users can control non-sensitive devices from their phone's lock screen and ask about the status of their devices.
The update also includes improved thermostat controls and automatic opening of the Google Home app for security-related actions.
