The "AI Tax" is Coming

As we head into 2025, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) face a clear choice: embrace AI or compete with it.

AI-related spending is projected to increase by 7.5% in 2024, referred to as the "AI tax." Key areas of spending include industry-specific cloud solutions, retrieval-augmented generation (RAGs) systems, and data infrastructure overhauls.

The rise of custom GPTs and AI agents will streamline workflows, improving operational efficiency by 20-30%.

However, businesses must understand AI's limitations and ensure human oversight in areas requiring nuanced judgment or creativity.

Claude vs Gemini...

Google is using Anthropic's Claude to evaluate and improve its Gemini AI by comparing their responses.

Contractors tasked with this evaluation have noted Claude's emphasis on safety, often refusing to respond to unsafe prompts, while Gemini has faced issues with safety violations.

This practice has raised compliance concerns, as Anthropic's terms prohibit using Claude to build or train competing AI models without approval.

Google, a major investor in Anthropic, has not confirmed whether it obtained permission for this use.

Chrome's AI Boost

A rumor suggests Google is working on integrating Gemini Live, an AI-powered assistant, into Chrome under the codename "Glic."

This feature would provide real-time assistance, requiring access to the microphone and location, and could offer context about web pages through a floating panel or side UI.

If successful, this integration could set a new standard for browser capabilities, making AI assistance a universal experience for Chrome users.
