Gmail's New AI: Gemini
Gmail users on Android devices can now chat directly with Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, about their emails. This new feature, called Gmail Q&A, was rolled out on Thursday for users who pay for Gemini.
Feature Overview: With Gmail Q&A, users can ask Gemini to summarize emails, search for specific details, and provide insights. For example, users can ask, “Catch me up on the emails about quarterly planning” or "How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?".
User Access and Subscription: The feature is available to paying users who subscribe to Gemini or Google One AI Premium, costing around $20 a month. The Gemini button is located next to the search bar in the Gmail app.
Future Expansion: Currently, Gmail Q&A only accesses emails, but Google plans to extend this functionality to include files in Google Drive. The feature is also expected to be available on iOS devices soon.

iPhone Volume Buttons won't Control Spotify Connect Anymore
Spotify has accused Apple of disrupting its volume control functionality on iOS devices, claiming that recent changes violate the European Digital Markets Act (DMA) and hinder user experience.
Issue with Volume Control: Historically, Spotify users could adjust volume levels using the physical buttons on their iPhones while streaming music via Spotify Connect. However, this feature has been disabled, forcing users to use the volume slider within the Spotify app.
Violation of DMA: Spotify argues that Apple’s changes violate Article 6 (7) of the DMA, which mandates effective interoperability between services and the hardware and software features of gatekeepers like Apple. Spotify points out that Apple’s own devices, such as HomePod and Apple TV, allow seamless integration with iPhones for volume control.
User Experience and Workarounds: Spotify has introduced workarounds for iOS users, notifying them to use the app’s volume controls when pressing the physical buttons during playback through Spotify Connect.
