Biden Calls for Ban on AI Voice Impersonations

Biden’s Call for Ban During his State of the Union address, President Biden called for a ban on AI voice impersonations. This is a response to a rising issue in the entertainment and tech industries.

Biden’s Proposals

President Biden listed off a series of different proposals that he hopes to address if elected to a second term. These include strengthening penalties on fentanyl trafficking, passing bipartisan privacy legislation to protect children online, harnessing the promise of AI to protect us from peril, and banning AI voice impersonations.

AI in the Entertainment Industry

AI has been a peak concern for SAG-AFTRA during the actors union’s negotiations with and strike against the major studios last year. The talks finished with an agreement that established consent and compensation requirements for productions to utilize AI to replicate actors’ likenesses and voices.

Synthetic Performers

The deal did not block the studios from training AI systems to create “synthetic” performers that bear no resemblance to any real people.

Biden’s State of the Union address also saw a series of small hiccups from heckling Congress members, including Georgia’s Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

High Potential AI Stocks David Tepper Invested.

1. Oracle

Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) ranks as Tepper's biggest new position in Q4. He bought 1.32 million shares of the database and software giant that were worth close to $140 million at the end of 2023.

2. Alibaba

Tepper also loaded up on Alibaba (NYSE: BABA) in Q4. His hedge fund already owned a sizable position in the Chinese tech stock but added another 750,000 shares. That was enough to boost Appaloosa's stake in Alibaba by nearly 21%.

3. Amazon

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) retained its No. 3 spot in Appaloosa Management's portfolio at the end of 2023. But it was a bigger position for the hedge fund after Tepper increased his stake in the e-commerce and cloud services giant by more than 5.3%. That has turned out to be a great move, with Amazon stock jumping by a double-digit percentage so far in 2024.

4. Microsoft

Tepper also increased his position in Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) by nearly 4% in Q4. The massive tech company currently ranks as Appaloosa Management's second-largest holding, making up 11.3% of its portfolio.
