The Trump administration is closely scrutinizing Apple's deal with Alibaba to integrate the Chinese company's AI into iPhones sold in China.
U.S. officials are concerned that this partnership could enhance China's AI capabilities, expand the reach of Chinese chatbots with censorship restrictions, and increase Apple's exposure to Beijing’s strict data-sharing and censorship laws.
The deal, confirmed by Alibaba in February 2025, is seen as a strategic move to strengthen its position in China’s competitive AI market, where companies like DeepSeek are making significant advancements.
Apple and Alibaba have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Microsoft is rolling out new AI-powered features in Windows 11, enhancing right-click functionality in File Explorer.
Users will soon be able to right-click files to access AI-driven actions such as blurring image backgrounds, erasing objects, and summarizing Office documents.
These features, currently in testing within the Dev Channel builds, aim to streamline workflows and improve productivity.
Microsoft also plans to extend AI capabilities to Office files for OneDrive and SharePoint users, though access will require a Microsoft 365 commercial subscription and a Copilot license.
Additionally, the company is experimenting with a redesigned widget layout for better personalization and introducing a new power management system called User Interaction-Aware CPU Power Management, which optimizes battery life by adjusting performance based on user activity.
These updates reflect Microsoft's ongoing commitment to integrating AI into everyday computing experiences.
Google has officially launched the NotebookLM mobile app for Android and iOS, fulfilling one of the most requested features from users.
The app mirrors the desktop version’s functionality, allowing users to upload sources, generate summaries, and create AI-powered Audio Overviews—podcast-style discussions summarizing key information.
A standout feature is offline playback, enabling users to listen to summaries without an internet connection.
Additionally, users can interact with AI hosts by asking follow-up questions, refining summaries, or steering discussions in new directions.
The app also integrates seamless content sharing, letting users add PDFs, websites, and YouTube videos directly to NotebookLM from their mobile devices.
Google’s timing aligns with Google I/O 2025, suggesting further AI-related announcements may follow.
This expansion reinforces Google’s commitment to making AI-powered research tools more accessible and interactive.
