Elon Musk, the billionaire and tech mogul, predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) will likely be smarter than ‘all humans combined’ by 2029. He believes that AI will reach human-level intelligence by next year, a timeline much shorter than what other futurists have estimated.
Ray Kurzweil’s Estimate
Famed inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil made a “conservative” estimate about when AI will reach human-level intelligence during an appearance on a popular podcast. He stated, "We’re not quite there, but we will be there, and by 2029 it will match any person”.
Musk’s Concerns About AI
Musk has been outspoken about his concerns regarding AI and the dangers associated with it, often calling for more regulation of the powerful technology. He has expressed fear that AI could lead to “civilizational destruction” if mismanaged.
Kurzweil’s Past Predictions
Kurzweil explained he had made this prediction at the turn of the 21st century. “I actually said that in 1999,” Kurzweil said. “I said we would match any person by 2029, so 30 years. People thought that was totally crazy.
